The answer for this question is quite variable actually. The major factor for the need for enhancements is undercorrection at the first surgery.

I had PRK 7 weeks ago and asked my surgeon what his "enhancement rate" was. His was about 10%. I asked for reasons and he stated the most common reason he saw was undercorrection. He said that a few cases of his were because the vision had not stabilized at the time the surgery was performed (too young of patients), so he raised his preferred minimum age to 21 and found he had fewer instances of this happening. I asked him then how long between the original surgery and the enhancements, and he told me that it really varied a lot…anywhere from within the first year to 10 years down the road.

I then asked him what my chances were for an enhancement…the answer I got was no chance…my corneas were pretty thin and there's just no room for a safe enhancement in the future…which is fine by me.

So, the answer to your question really truly lies in your corneal thickness preop, how much cornea is removed to correct your vision, your postop corneal thickness, and how accurate your preop measurements are for your visual acuity.

You will probably find you will need reading glasses once you hit your 40s…just about everyone does, LASIK or not.

Good luck! You'll be happy with your results…but ask your surgeon…even call him prior to your op date…and ask him about his personal enhancement rates and the length of time from the original surgery…and if you would be eligible for any enhancements in the future…if not…do not let them 'sell' you a lifetime enhancement plan that you will never be able to use.

Contact the paper, tell them how much your dog means to you, how young he is, the importance of good breeding and nutrition (to lessen the risk of diabetes) and how your dog now has complications from diabetes (cataracts, etc.)

A couple here got a lot in donations to save their dog who had been hit by a car…you may have luck with this as well.

Care Credit saved my dogs life!

If you know a lot of dog people, who want to feed better nutrition, you can become an independent distributor for Flint River Ranch and raise money that way…It's pet food and you do not have to keep an inventory. It's shipped direct to your customer. Email me if you would like to go this route…

I'm betting if you put as much effort into finding a charity or source from the hospital financial office to help fund this as you did trying to justify it, you wouldn't have to.

That being said; it's your life, your body, your decision.

    Good luck

We went thru this a few months ago. We found a stye like growth on the bottom lid of my catahoula puppy and i freaked out like it you are. We went to the vet and they gave us a salve to put on her eye twice a day…well my puppy decided to eat it…seriously a week later it went away. Wierd but some puppies will get these growths and they go away on their own. It is your decision to have surgery and it is easier if the dog is younger…but if its not hurting the dog then i would wait a little longer before you put your dog under anthesia to remove it…

    good luck
