How much should I expect to pay for Lasik surgery?
I have worn contacts since the 5th grade and they are starting to dry out my eyes. I would like to get the Lasik surgery, but I want to make sure it is an option I can afford. I’m sure there is financing available.
For the record, this is in Houston, Texas. I am not interested in going elsewhere for the surgery.
Also, I need the surgery because I have astigmatism, and I’m nearsighted.
I’m 23 years old. I know, the 5th grade comment made me sound really young.

We charge between 2800-4000 for both eyes depending on what your prescription is. And there are other factors such as corneal thickness and pupil size that determine which lasik procedure is better for you. The most important thing is to find a reputable surgeon in your area. Ask around to friends and co-workers for advice as well. Most places do free consultations, so if you are really unsure go to a couple of places and get information about the surgeon and pricing. Most places can give you information regarding financing. It is usually through an outside company such as CareCredit or Capital One. Those are two that we offer. I had lasik done

The only potential problem I see may be that since you haven't been wearing contacts or glasses, your vision prescription probably keeps changing. You definitely cannot get LASIK if your vision isn't stabilized. They will not do it ever. I would recommend going to a LASIK Plus location. They are very good there and will do a free appointment to determine if you are good candidate for it. I would definitely recommend doing that. You have nothing to lose and no money to lose on the free appointment.
I had PRK, same laser, different approach. The cost average is 1200-2100 per eye. It was possible to finance using Care Credit…but I have a better interest rate on my credit card, so I didn't go that route. I had to have custom wavefront due to thinner corneas, so my cost after my vision insurance discount was 1700/eye.
The prices have really not changed at all since laser correction surgery came out…the technology advancements have kept them about the same. Right now, we are in generation #3 of lasers. Be very aware of the 'cheap' places…do research on the surgeon…these are the only eyes you will have…and I wasn't gonna put mine in the hands of the lowest bidder.
I'm 30-something and very glad that I had my PRK surgery. I'm 4 weeks postop today and other than some dry eyes and irritation (ocular allergies), I'm doing great! Seeing as near to 20/20 as I can figure. A little vision fluctuations as my eyes get drier, but some artificial tears clears that up.
Just research your surgeon. I strongly believe I had such a good outcome because of the surgeon, his education, and experience. I checked out 3 in my area…and this one just blew me away with his credentials (corneal specialist…also teaches corneal pathology at a medical school in my region).
